It's been a few weeks since our last “weekly update,” but not because we haven't been doing anything. More just because we work all week, then get like a day each weekend to work on this website, and sometimes the updates just don't happen. But that doesn't mean we're not doing anything. We're just too busy to bother with trying to look busy. This week though, we have stuff to talk about.
New Dissection: Perfect Blue
After about six months, we're finally wrapping up our Dissection series on animated horror, and the headliner is one of our favorite films of all time — not just favorite horror films or animated film or foreign films, but favorite films. Period. In “Surreal Idol,” Meg explains what the internet misunderstands about Satoshi Kon's masterpiece, Perfect Blue. In short, everything that happens in the film is “real” (that is, not a hallucination), and the ending is not self-affirming, but actually a weird moment of meta-horror.
Upcoming Fable for the
We have a new Fable coming too. Look forward to roadkill, family grief, and a moderate dose of animal gore.
Other Than That…
We're dreaming up our next Dissection series, and we're planning a Judgment spin-off from that Perfect Blue essay. That'll come around Halloweentime.
