New & Upcoming Judgments & an Upcoming Fable

The thing about having a News & Updates section is you have to update it. Otherwise, what’s on it is neither news nor update. What can we say? We’ve been busy working on stuff, so busy we kind of forgot to do that very basic thing… for like six weeks…

Anyway, for those of you who celebrate it, Happy Thanksgiving! We’re not publishing anything new this week because we are gearing up for massive amounts of food at our family’s Thanksgiving dinner. But we have some announcements. First, things we’ve published over the past six weeks. Then, some up-and-coming exciting stuff.

Stuff We’ve Already Published

Since we posted that last update on October 9, we’ve published a Fable for the Dying called “The Sounds of the Dead,” by Natalie Plahuta and a Judgment on one of our favorite Lovecraftian horror films, The Endless, by Aaron Moorehead and Justin Benson.

Upcoming Judgment & a New Dissection Series

We’ve got a new Judgment in the works. We’re hoping to publish it next week, but it’s shaping up to be considerably longer than any of our previous Judgments. We’ve been thinking a lot lately about horror movies filled with stories that don’t seem to add up, that are chronologically or causally broken. Films in which time feels out of joint, in which cause and effect are disrupted, in which the line between fantasy and reality is smudged. Look forward to a new essay drawing connections between these kinds of films.

After that, we’re going to kick off a new Dissection series exploring a few of our favorites from this weird horror subgenre. You can expect those to start rolling out in the New Year, but we have something else for you in the meantime.

Upcoming Fable

We’ve finished editing and preparing artwork for our next Fable for the Dying, a folk horror story by Shelly Jones called “Confessions of a Nixie.” Our Patreon supporters will get early access to that story on Wednesday, December 7, and it’ll become publicly available on our website on Saturday, December 10.

That’s all for now because we have to go brave the madness at our local grocery store to pick up ingredients to make vegan crab cakes because, for some reason, our family decided to make seafood for Thanksgiving this year, even though we’re nowhere near any large bodies of water. We’ll let you know how that goes.
